First of all: being able to store just 50 items of each good is just not enough. Who ever came up with that idea?
I mean, I get it. It poses a challenge. But it is annoying.
Luckily, there are ways to increase your warehouse storage capacity! Let's take a look!
How not to increase the warehouse storage limit
Experienced city builders or strategy gamers might be tempted to build extra warehouses to increase the storage capacity. More warehouses will give you more space, right?
In SteamWorld Build, this is not the case. Building an extra Warehouse, will not grant you extra storage space.
However, don't let that stop you building extra Warehouses. You will need extra Warehouses to make sure all production buildings can drop their produce quickly enough. Also, you can use the expansion slots to place items in each Warehouse.
For the record: there isn't any building you can construct to increase the capacity. Even though the game has a strong resemblance with Anno 1800, it does not have the Depot building Annoholics can use to increase Island Warehouse capacity.
Wait, go back a little. Expansion slots, you say? Aha! This brings us to...
How to increase warehouse storage space in SteamWorld Build
The only way to increase Warehouse storage space in SteamWorld Build is by using items. Specifically, the Warehouse Expansion item.
You can get items in 2 ways: either by trading for them in the train station, or by digging your way around the mines.
Both ways are costly. The train station route will set you back a lot of money and rubies. Early game, this will be an issue. Later on, you'll be rolling in the dollars so it'll be less of a strain.
Note: You will need to have your train station repaired. Read this guide on when you should repair the trainstation in SteamWorld Build to learn more about repairing the train station.
Digging out your dungeon floors does not cost anything resource wise, but it will take up time. A lot of time, if you want to do it properly. You'll have to select the parts of the mine to carve out, take care of enemies (on the lower floors), make sure you dig around Bedrock, things like that.
Still: it is worth it. Each Warehouse Expansion item you equip in a Warehouse will give you +25 global storage capacity. Not only that, it will also add 3 simultaneous deliveries to and from that Warehouse.
So if you either get the chance to buy a Warehouse Expansion item or find one in a chest: rejoice! And remember to apply that item to a Warehouse straight away, lest you forget to do it later...
