What you'll read in this post:

As your Manor Lords settlement level increases, so do your resident's needs. Families have different requirements at different levels, and you will have to satisfy them all if you want to upgrade them.

Families start requiring clothing the moment they settle in a burgage plot. Together with fuel and 2 types of food, it makes up the basic requirements that need to be provided by a nearby market.

2 Types of clothing required

Once you upgrade your burgage plots to level 2, the residing families' requirements increase. Instead of just 1 type of clothing, they now require 2 types

Both need to be of a different level. On the one hand, a level 2 family still requires their level 1 clothing to be available. So even though they're higher level, the level 2 family still requires leather, yarn or linen.

Aside from that requirement, a level 2 family needs a more sophisticated type of clothing in Manor Lords. These can be produced by Artisans in a burgage plot's backyard extensions.

A level 2 family can be turned into clothing producing artisans by adding either the Cobbler's workshop or the Tailor's workshop to their burgage plot.

Cobbler's Workshop

A Cobbler's workshop produces shoes to wear for your Manor Lords families.

Shoes are produced from leather. Leather is one of the goods that can satisfy a level 1 clothing need, but also the only product required to produce shoes. It takes 2 leather to make 1 pair of shoes.

Leather is produced in a Tannery, which uses hides for input. The production ratio is 1 hide for 1 leather.

Hides are a byproduct of a Hunting cabin. The production of hides can be increased by spending development points in the left side of the research wheel.

Tailor's Workshop

A Tailor's Workshop can produce several types of goods: Cloaks, Clothing and Gambesons. It is one of the types of buildings in Manor Lords that you can micro manage to produce different goods.

Gambesons are used to outfit militia and require 2 linen to be produced. They do not satisfy any of your family's needs in Manor Lords, but will buff the defence stats of militia units wearing them.

Cloaks and Clothing both satisfy the second level of requirements set by level 2 families.

Cloaks require 1 Yarn and 1 Dye as input to create 1 Cloak. Yarn is produced by a Weaver's workshop if supplied with Wool sheep from a farm.

Clothing requires 1 Linen and 1 Dye as input to create 1 set of Clothing. Linen is also produced by a Weaver's workshop if supplied with Flax from a farm.

For the Dye, that is made of berries by an industrial building, the Dyer's workshop

Cloaks, Clothing, Shoes

Now you know which types of clothing you will need to satisfy level 2 families in Manor Lords.

To recap, you need to supply level 2 families with:

  1. Leather or Yarn or Linen; and
  2. Cloaks or Clothing or Shoes

Of course, the more supply you have, the better approval rating you will have. So if you can produce both Cloaks at a Tailor's workshop as well as Shoes at a Cobbler's workhop, great!

If not, don't worry! As long as at least 1 of the types of clothing requirement are available on the market, you'll still be able to upgrade your level 2 families to level 3 families.

Keep in mind: upgrading a burgage plot to level 3 doubles the living space. Extra living space means extra families settling your village. Take this into account if you don't want your settlement to grow in size just yet.
