Posted on Jan 13, 2025
Manor Lords kicks off 2025 with a massive update bringing all platforms up to speed with version 0.8.024, introducing new maps, marketplace improvements, and extensive balance changes. The community's overwhelmingly positive response suggests an exciting year ahead for this medieval city builder.
What you'll read in this post:
We've all witnessed the great interest in Manor Lords even before it was released. We've also seen the great community support it has received since it was released back in April 2024.
While Steam players have been enjoying the improvements brought by version 0.8.017 since December last year, players on other platforms like Epic and Xbox Game Pass have had to wait. The wait is now over, as these players are making a leap from the last version 0.8.005 to the newest 0.8.024 update.
This brings everyone up to speed with all the latest features and improvements. So, what have we been treated to by SlavicMagic? Will Manor Lords start 2025 strong? Lets find out!
New Features
Manor Lords' latest updates introduce several exciting additions to enhance the gameplay experience.
- Finally, 2 new maps have been added to the selection: High Peaks and Winding River, offering fresh challenges and landscapes for players to conquer
- A new bridge-building system has been implemented, integrated seamlessly with the Road Tool
- Wells can now be upgraded to Stone Wells, providing water to more plots
- Taverns can now be upgraded to Level 2, providing slower food spoilage
- An Overstock setting has been added for distribution buildings, allowing finer control over resource management
New maps in Manor Lords also introduce bridge building.
Major Changes
The most significant overhaul comes to the marketplace and storage systems:
- Marketplace stalls are now exclusively operated by storage building workers, making it clear who owns the stall
- The marketplace supply system has been revamped, with supply capacity now directly tied to the number of stalls and assigned storage building families
- Fuel and Fabric stalls have been merged into General Goods stalls
- A new cliff system has been implemented, making buildable and traversable areas more clearly visible with improved pathfinding
The distribution of vital resources has also seen significant changes:
- Ale from taverns and water from wells now follow a similar distribution system to marketplace items
- Villagers will sometimes consume food directly from granaries to reduce marketplace supply fluctuations
- New storage filters have been added to marketplaces to control goods distribution
Balance Changes
The update brings comprehensive balance adjustments to building costs and resource management:
- Building costs have been rebalanced to reduce log requirements while increasing the use of planks, stone, and tools. This should be in line with the visuals. So if a building looks like it is made of stone, the cost of stone will go up.
- Iron and stone deposit sizes have been increased, with normal deposits seeing up to 60% minimum amounts and 28% maximum size improvements
Resource amounts, distribution and costs have all been changed in Manor Lords version 0.8.024.
- Tavern employment has been adjusted for level 1 Taverns, now requiring only one family for Level 1 (down from 3)
- Food consumption has been modified to encourage equal consumption of all food types rather than random selection
- Region strength selection has been improved to ensure more balanced resource distribution
Notable Bug Fixes
The updates address several significant issues that were impacting gameplay:
- Fixed a critical GPU crash issue that was affecting some PC users
- Resolved various pathfinding issues, including:
- Traders and oxen getting stuck off-map on "Winding River"
- Units walking underground near streams
- Bridge pathfinding gaps that caused soldiers to "fall" off
- Improved military mechanics by fixing:
- Brigands not properly leaving their camps when enemy troops are nearby
- Combat-related lag spikes in difficult terrain
- Issues with soldier animations and movement
- Addressed resource management bugs:
- Fixed wool yield accumulation on sheep
- Resolved issues with granary workers collecting incorrect items
- Fixed problems with excessive water collection that could clog wells
- Improved building functionality:
- Fixed tavern visitor animations during upgrades
- Resolved surface mine construction issues
- Fixed clay furnace operation problems
All of these updates show the large amounts of great work the developers have put into the game the last couple of months. Manor Lords makes a significant step forward, with improvements touching almost every aspect of the game.
I say that Manor Lords has definitely started strong in 2025. This sentiment has also been shared in the community, where Greg, the OG developer of Manor Lords, asked "How's 0.8.024 feeling so far?" last Friday.
Giving the community 2 options (bugfixes or working on new stuff), over 80% was positive of the current state. 11.000 voters (and counting) gave developers the green light to work on new stuff.
This can only mean 1 thing: more new features coming to Manor Lords in 2025!
