Let's play the 'You from among all the armies' mission in Citadelum! The 2nd mission of the Last Conqueror of Britannia campaign.

Finally a map which requires us to defeat all enemies! A smaller map with only 5 armies, but great to finish in an hour or two.

Story

Linne Tatha, 80 AD. The advance of Gnaeus Julius Agricola is unstoppable. He orders the construction of a camp in the Firth of Tay to ensure the supply of resources through naval routes, accompanied by the Second, Ninth and Twentieth legions. But for the first time you will face a much tougher enemy, the Caledonians.

Objectives

  • Buy 800 Marble using a trade route
  • Free the city of Easter Powside
  • Win 5 battles
  • Sell 1600 Marble through trade routes

In short

  • Difficulty: Normal
  • Region map: Big
  • Trading routes: 9
  • Initial resources:
    • 10.000 Denarii
    • 1000 wood
    • 1200 stone
  • Enemy presence: 5 armies
  • Fighting required: Yes (you'll have to defeat all of them)

Walkthrough

Water is much more scarce on this map than on the previous map. There are a few lakes, but not a big river like you've seen in other maps. Not that this is an issue, but it does make water planning a bit more important. There isn't much of a sweet spot for the Forum, just put that anywhere.

Iron and stone resources are spread out across the map. Just to the west of the center you'll find a mountain range that kinda looks like a velociraptor eating some stone. This has an iron deposit as well and some trees, so this should be a nice spot to start your resource hub.

On the region map, it all looks frosty. 2 Scouts are waiting for your orders, but keep them stationary for a while. The map isn't large, so you don't have to start exploring too soon on this map.

The start of this mission won't be different from any of the other missions you've completed so far. You build your city, Plebeians will come. You improve your city, Patricians will come. You'll run out of money, Rome will come and bail you out.

Tip: It's not always a bad decision to let things go bad. For instance, if you are close to bankruptcy, don't do budget cuts to avoid going below zero. Instead, make sure you do! This way, Rome will send you 5000 Denarii, which will give you a great boost.

The same is true for Gods. Don't try to appease a single Gods if they're all close to punishing. Just let the punishment happen for one of them, which will make all of them back off for a bit.

Exploring the map

Once you've established your economy, start training your army. One of the objectives is to free a city, the other to win 5 battles. Both of them require a decently sized army. Queue up 150 archers, 150 infantry, 60 cavalry and 4 Centurions. You might not need them all, but it is always nice to be able to reinforce your standing army.

While you are training your army, start exploring the map with your scouts. 1 Step to the east is an artifact which you can dedicate to Mars. These are great, because they will speed up your army production immensely. Of course, you can achieve the same result by sacrificing pigs or people, but... well, you know, not everyone is too big a fan of doing that, even if it's a game. 😉

To the north > west, you will find the first battle. Only 50 soldiers, great for a warm up.

The second army is south > south from your city. Only 60 soldiers, but they're all archers. After defeating it, go west to discover Broomhill. Broomhill is important in this mission, as it is the only city to sell Marble to you. Set up a trade route to buy the full amount of Marble. ✅ The objective is to import only 800 Marble, yet you need to sell 1600.

From Broomhill, go south to find the third army. Only 91 strong with a equal mix of infantry and archers.

Go north-west > west, you will find the big whopper. The fourth army is largest foe on the map, with army consisting of 60 infantry, 45 archers and 40 cavalry. Don't take this lightly, as the Caledonians seem even tougher soldiers to beat than the Romans in the first campaign. Defeat this army to free the city of Easter Powside. ✅

Wrapping up

After you have freed Easter Powside, reinforce your army and go north. There you will find the last remaining enemy with a fairly decent force. Defeat this army to tick off the battle oriented objectives. ✅

The final objective is to sell 1600 Marble through trade routes. To do so, explore east > east from your own city to discover the city of Carpow. This is the only city on the map to buy Marble. ✅

Ave Caesar!

Continuing after victory

There really isn't much to do in this campaign map after you explored the south-west part of the map and finished all the objectives.

  • Turning to the south before you reach Carpow, you will find Auchtermuchty (buying iron, selling milk). Continue to discover Edenwood, buying papyrus and selling steaks.
  • Go to the north to discover St Madoes (buying stone, selling eggs) and Longforgan (buying cloth, selling fish fillets)
