How to best use the Crook Boss in Tower Defense Simulator (Roblox)

The Crook Boss in Tower Defense Simulator is an intermediate, but powerful tower. It gets even better with a little bit of timing...

What you'll read in this post:

When playing Tower Defense Simulator, or TDS, on Roblox, I'm a big fan of the Crook boss.

It is a very versatile tower, easily capable of helping you gain victory in Easy solo levels.

You can place 5 crook bosses per player in a level of TDS. It unlocks after you reach level 30, or you can get it early by buying the gamepass for 300 Robux.

The reason why the Crook boss is so strong, is because of its double or even triple damage

Triple damage output

The crook boss itself has a gun. Makes sense, have you ever seen a mafia movie without guns?

The damage and range of the crook boss itself isn't bad. Not great, but not terrible either.

Level Price Damage Firerate DPS Range Extra
0 600 3 0.9 3.33 12.5 1 pistol goon spawns every 50 seconds
1 300 4 0.75 5.33 12.5
2 900 6 0.75 8 14

Flying detection

Hidden detection

2 pistol goons spawn every 50 seconds

3 4250 6 0.2 30 15 1 Tommy Goon (4 damage, 0.2 firerate) spawns every 50 seconds (as well as goons)
4 20000 18 0.12 150 16.5 Tommy Goon upgraded to Body Guard (10 damage, 0.12 firerate)

What makes the crook boss stand out from other towers in Tower Defense Simulator, is that it spawns Pistol Goons. Of course, it's not called a boss for no reason.

Goons spawn every 50 seconds. 1 at first. With the upgrade of the Crook boss to level 2, two goons spawn simultaneously. Their range is 20 (that is more than the boss itself!) and with a damage of 3 at a fire rate of 1, Goon DPS is 3. Goons have 15 health and hidden detection from level 0.

But what really makes the Crook boss special in this Roblox game, is once it's upgraded to level 3. Then it not only spawns Goons, but also spawns a Guard every 50 seconds.

A Tommy goon has a range of 17. The fire rate is 0.2 seconds and damage is 4, making a DPS of 20. Tommy goon health is 100 and they have hidden detection from crook boss level 3 (which is when tommy goons start spawning anyway).

The body guard has a range of 18. The fire rate is lowered to 0.12 seconds, while damage is upgraded to 10. This makes the body guard have 83.33 DPS. Health also gets a boost, a body guard has 175 health

Separately, crook boss, tommy goon and body guard are nothing special. But with one tower, you get all 3 of them in a single deal

If you have all of them on the field, their combined damage at crook boss level 4 is about 240 DPS! This puts it at the higher end of a DPS tier list, which makes the crook boss a great tower to have in your inventory

How sweet!

Time is of the essence

Like other towers in TDS, the Crook boss itself is stationary. However, the spawned goons and guards aren't.

They spawn at the end of the path and slowly make their way towards the start of the path. They will stop once enemies appear in their line of sight. Either they get killed by the enemy, or live to tell the tale and continue moving along the path.

The trick with crook boss placement is to place them in 10 second intervals, so that the road is constantly filled with goons which appear 10 seconds apart.

To do so, place the first crook boss. It really doesn't matter when yet. Just place it on a sensible location, making the best use of its range.

Once you have enough money to place a second crook boss, select the first one. In the upper right corner of the detail screen, you will see a timer. This is the countdown until this crook boss spawns a new goon.

Wait until a new goon spawns. The timer resets to 50. Deselect the Crook boss, count down from 10 to 0. At 0, place the second crook boss

You now have 2 goons spawning 10 seconds apart.

Now select your second crook boss. Wait until the goon spawns and the timer resets to 50. Start counting down from 10, place your third crook boss once you reach 0.

Repeat this with the fourth and fifth crook boss.

You will now have goons spawning every 10 seconds, guarding your whole track with their guns and lives.

It's upgrade time!

Want to do even better? You can!

When you are upgrading your crook boss to level 3, a bodyguard is added to the spawn cycle. This bodyguard also spawns every 50 seconds, which means we can use it to clog the path even more with mobile towers.

This time, no difficult timers are required. Just select the crook boss you want to upgrade and wait

Press the upgrade button when the goon spawn timer is at 25 seconds. Do this with all 5 crook bosses.

Hey, I'm walking here!

If you have followed along, you will now have 50 second cycles with something spawning every 5 seconds:

  • 5 seconds: pistol goon
  • 10 seconds: bodyguard
  • 15 seconds: pistol goon
  • 20 seconds: pistol guard
  • 25 seconds: pistol goon
  • etc...

This means you will have constant protection walking the streets of your level. I've tried soloing a TDS Molten level with this tactic and almost made it using just the maximum of 5 crook bosses. The Molten boss had just 1500 health left, which is pretty decent.
