What are Spices in Citadelum and how do you get them?

Spices are one of ten resources you can't produce yourself. Here is how to get them anyway.

In Citadelum, you can't produce all the resources you can see in the Resources tab of your Management overview.
But, all resources to play a certain part in the game. These are all involved in trade routes with other cities. Some of these resources are even required as objectives.
What is Spices in Citadelum
In Citadelum, spices are one of these resources you can't produce.
The only way to get them, is by buying spices using a trade route.
Spices played an important role in the Roman Empire. They were a big influence on their cooking and culture. Because most spices come from abroad, it also had a large impact on their trades. The trade in spices like pepper, cinnamon and cloves helped connect the Roman Empire to regions as far as India, Southeast Asia, and even China.
It is no wonder then, that spices in Citadelum are only obtainable by trading with other cities.
What are Spices used for in Citadelum
Unlike a few of the other unproducable goods, spices actually do play a part in Citadelum.
Spices are used in a mission as one of the objectives. This is in mission 10 of the Rise of the Roman Empire campaign: The play is over. In this final mission, you will have to send 400 spices to Rome to achieve victory.
Other than that, spices are not required by any level of Plebeians or Patricians to level up to a higher housing level, nor does it serve as an input resource for any kind of production building.
To increase the role spices plays in Citadelum, it could be required by higher level citizens as a consumption requirement. In Roman times, the high class citizens used spices to prepare elaborate dishes that demonstrated their wealth and status.
Which cities trade in Spices
You can trade for spices on 1 map in the campaign. This is the only map that also requires spices as an objective.

- Lavinium, selling 110 spices at 21 Denarii
- Portus, selling 125 spices at 15 Denarii
- Amiternum, selling 400 spices at 9 Denarii
- Tibur, buying 150 spices at 30 Denarii
