Religion and Gods played an important part in Roman history. Not surprisingly, they pop up in this Roman themed city builder too.

Back in the day, when the Roman Empire was growing and thriving, they were a so called 'polytheistic civilisation'. Sounds difficult, but it isn't. It just means people didn't believe in the one true God, but worshipped different deities.

Of course, the empire itself span so large a land, different religions could be found within its borders. But most people prayed and offered to Gods like Mars, Jupiter and Ceres.

Roman religion in Citadelum

Religion was part of the daily lives of Romans. They worshipped and sacrificed, they prayed and celebrated.

In Citadelum, this part of ancient history is reflected by 5 things:

  1. 6 Gods in the game;
  2. Temples for each of the Gods;
  3. Religious festivals to celebrate;
  4. Sacrifices to offer;
  5. Artefacts.

All of the five things mentioned above play a role in your game play. As long as you keep the Gods happy one way or another, they won't smite you with their powers.

Temples in Citadelum

The Gods in Citadelum want you to know that they are important. To do so, you will either gain their favour, or not.

The easiest way to not anger the Gods is by building temples. The temples open up 2 more options: celebrating festivals and bringing sacrifices.

The temples in Citadelum are open to the public. This means their radius of influence needs to cover at least some houses. Citizens will visit the temples, fall to their knees and start praying.

3 Possible states for a temple. To the left: Pluto without any citizens to worship him. To the right, Mars without a road to walk the path to the temple.

Also, the temples need to be connected by road. Even if a temple has houses in its radius, if it is not connected by road, the people will not be able to pray and you might as well not have built a temple at all.

How many temples do you need to build in Citadelum

Gods will be happier when you build a temple, but... it won't stay that way forever.

While your city grows and as your Prestige increases, the Gods will ask for more temples to maintain their favour. This means that the number of temples the Gods demand, directly depends on your Prestige Level.

  • Prestige Level 1 - 2: the Gods each demand 1 temple
  • Prestige Level 3 - 6: the Gods each demand 1 temple
  • Prestige Level 7 - 9: the Gods each demand 2 temples
  • Prestige Level 10: the Gods each demand 3 temples

At Prestige Level 1 and 2, you can't build temples yet. So even though the Gods demand a temple, you won't lose any of their favour and they will remain neutral.

Now you know how many temples to build while playing Citadelum. Keep in mind, it only counts if the temple has houses in their influence radius!

If you hover over the Gods profile picture next to the Management scroll and it says you're a temple short, check if their temple can be used by your Plebeians and Patricians for worshipping. Just click on on of the temples, a white overlay will appear. In that white overlay, you will need houses with citizens living in them. And of course, get it connected to the road network
