Citadelum DLC: The Last Conqueror of Britannia Now Available for Free
Posted on Dec 18, 2024
The Romans gave conquering Britannia a shot. Now we can too in the first free DLC of Citadelum!
What you'll read in this post:
Last month, Abylight Studios announced that a free Citadelum DLC would be released in December. This DLC would add a new campaign to the base game, titled The Last Conqueror of Britannia.
This free Citadelum DLC has been released as a Steam download on December 17tt 2024. It features 4 new missions, a different biome and more enemies!
4 new missions
The Roman invasion of Britannia was a whole thing back then. All the different tribes with all the different leaders and opinions made it fairly easy for the organised legions of the Roman Empire to get a foothold on the island. But once they did, there was enough resistance so that they never managed to conquer all the land.
In The Last Conqueror of Britannia, you follow the story of Gnaeus Julius Agricola. This Roman general was appointed governer of Britannia in 77 AD. He conquered Wales and tried to expand into Caledonia. This area of Britannia was still firmly protected by the Caledonians, a pain in Rome's backside.
Over the course of 4 new missions, you play 5 years of his campaign. These missions are more difficult than the original Rise of the Roman Empire campaign. Straight up, the targets are to reach Prestige Level 8, train at least 200 soldiers, free a city and discover others. These objectives are pretty steep if you haven't finished the first campaign.
The maps are more difficult to manage as well. Their layout is challenging, compared to the maps you are used to.
New gameplay elements
The Last Conqueror of Britannia adds more new elements than just the 4 new missions.
Britannia has a different climate than the rest of the Roman Empire, which is portrayed by adding a snow biome. There is also more water and a need for bridges.
Overview of the 4 new mission maps for the new Britannia campaign of Citadelum
The Caledonians were famous and feared for their guerrilla style warfare, which reflects in the battlefields you'll be fighting your battles one.
The mission objectives are also more diverse than in the original campaign. In the first mission, Under the auspices of the Romain Empire, you need to free the city of Isirium. In Never be accused of delaying a war, you need to train 50 guards.
Just like for the Rise of the Roman Empire campaign, you'll find a full breakdown of the full 4 mission campaign here on GameTheory.City as well - once I've conquered Britannia myself of course 😉
