The Killer Sudoku puzzle
Tips to solve
Are you stuck? Here are a few pointers to get you going.
- There are 6 combinations you can pencil in straight away: for sums 3, 4, 16, 17, 19 (already has a 3, making it 16) and 23.
- With these pencilled in, you can pencil in the sum 5 in Top Row, Left Colum. You can fill in the sum 17 below it, the sum 19 in the same block and sum 16 a block lower. You can also fill in the sum 12 spanning both blocks. Remember, both the numbers 7 and 9 have been ruled out in both blocks, which leaves only 1 possible combination according to our cheat sheet.
- Moving on to the block in Top Row, Right Column, you can pencil in all the fields.
- In doing so, you leave only 2 possible combinations for 2 times sum 9 in the top row. With these four numbers in mind, we know which combination will have to go in the sum 7 and fill that in. Also, the first number for the sum 23 can be filled!
- Using row matching, you can fill in the sum 5 in the Top Row. This leads you to pencilling in the sum 9 in TRMC, followed by sum 11.
- Now do some clean up in that Top Row. You can fill in some more fields and at least put something in all the fields. With only 6 combinations pencilled in, you're off to a good start!
