Welcome to Part 2 of our Year 1 Community Center Rush series for Stardew Valley! If you followed our Spring Guide, your farm is off to a flying start. You’ve harvested your Spring Crops, secured your 5 gold-star Parsnips (1/3 Quality Crops), unlocked the Fruit Bat cave at 25,000g earnings, built a Silo and Coop, and maybe even pulled a lucky Red Cabbage seed from the Traveling Cart.

Summer is where the pace picks up. Income starts multiplying thanks to high-yield crops like Blueberries and Melons.

But Summer also conceals two of the most dangerous bottleneck in the entire Year 1 rush: the Fiddlehead Fern and the Pufferfish. If you miss either of these items during Summer, your entire Year 1 Community Center run fails on the spot. Here is your complete roadmap to crushing Summer Year 1.

TL;DR - Summer Priorities

  • Get the Fiddlehead Fern: Harvest during Green Rain or upgrade your Axe to Steel (7,000g + 5 Copper Bars + 5 Iron Bars) to break into the Secret Woods and forage a Fiddlehead Fern before Summer ends.

  • Plant Fall Fruit Trees by Summer 25: Buy and plant an Apple Sapling before Summer 25 so it matures by Fall 25, leaving 3 days to yield the required 3 apples.

  • Focus on buildings: Upgrade your Coop to Big Coop and then Deluxe Coop, build the Barn and upgrade to Big Barn. Buy Duck and Rabbit to start the friendship building.

Current Farm State: Entering Summer

Before diving into Summer targets, verify that your farm aligns with where we left off at the end of Spring:

  • Spring Crops & Foraging: 100% complete. All Spring forage items and standard crops (Parsnip, Green Bean, Cauliflower, Potato).

  • Quality Crops: 5 Gold-Star Parsnips secured.

  • Spring Fishing: All Spring fish requirements (Sunfish, Catfish, Shad, Largemouth Bass, Carp, Bullhead, Sardine, Bream, Eel) have been caught.

  • Farm Infrastructure: Silo built (storing hay from cleared grass) and a basic Coop housing 1 White Chicken and 1 Brown Chicken to build friendship for Large Eggs.

  • The Cave: Unlocked the Fruit Bat cave after hitting the 25,000g earnings threshold.

  • Tree Tapping: Tappers attached to Oak, Maple, and Pine trees for continuous resin production.

  • Traveling Cart: Ideally, a Red Cabbage or Red Cabbage Seed secured (keep checking every Friday and Sunday if you haven't seen one yet!).

With these foundation steps out of the way, you are perfectly positioned to tackle Summer.

Event Checklist

In Spring, several key events were necessary to be able to continue on your journey to the Community Center. In Summer, none of these key events or triggers exist.

That doesn't mean that there are no events to visit, avoid or at least take into account. In Summer, make sure to take note of these dates:

  1. Thursday Summer 11: Enter the beach between 9am and 2pm to start the Luau. Or don't, because that ruins a perfectly good day to fish or mine and the Luau can only bring Friendship points.

  2. Saturday/Sunday Summer 20-21: Go fishing in the Trout Derby! The rewards are worth it. You can get things like Mystery Boxes, a Crap Pot, Diamond, Deluxe Bait, Quality Sprinkler, Omni Geode and more. And you can keep all the fish you catch, netting you upwards of 15k gold for 2 days of fishing!

Note: On Luau Thursday, all shops are closed. Pierre's is also closed on Wednesday. This means you won't be able to buy any new seeds from Pierre's for 2 days in a row, so decide on Tuesday whether you need something new! Also, you won't be able to get your tools back from Clint if you decide to upgrade them.

3. Farming & Foraging

Summer crops provide high profit and essential bundle items. Prepare your fields on Summer 1 with (Quality) Fertiliser, Quality Sprinklers or efficient watering paths.

Bundle Crops Requirements:

  • Summer Crops Bundle:

    • 1 Tomato

    • 1 Hot Pepper

    • 1 Blueberry

    • 1 Melon

  • Quality Crops Bundle (Goal: 2/3 Complete):

    • 5 Gold-Star Melons: Melons take 12 days to grow. Plant a minimum of 15 to 20 Melons on Summer 1 using Basic Fertiliser (crafted from 2 Sap each). This guarantees your second set of 5 gold-star crops after Spring's Parsnips.

    • 5 Gold-Star Corn: Corn takes 14 days to grow, then produces a single corn every 4 days. The plant carries over to Fall, so you have 2 seasons. That means you’ll yield 11 Corn off a single seed. You can make it 12 if you use Deluxe Speed-Gro, but money wise it’s better to use Fertiliser.

  • Additional Specific Crops:

    • 1 Poppy: Required for the Chef's Bundle.

    • 1 Sunflower: Required for the Dye Bundle (can also be grown in Fall, but get it done early).

    • 10 Wheat: Required for the Fodder Bundle. Wheat takes 4 days to grow and grows in both Summer and Fall.

    • Even more Wheat: Don’t buy Hay at Marnie's. Just plant Wheat, then harvest and be happy with the free Hay.

Economic Engines:

If you can afford it, buy 40 Blueberries Seeds on Summer 1. Each plant yields multiple berries every harvest after a 13-day initial growth period, giving you a lot of cash to fund upgrades and Vault bundles throughout the month.

Get a few Preserve Jars. Make Blueberry Jelly from the harvested blueberries, sell the rest. With the multiple harvests per plant, it’ll bring in a lot of cash.

Pro tip: plant 8 Blueberry seeds around a Quality Sprinkler (Iron Bar, Gold Bar, Refined Quartz). Every couple of days, every patch you make will yield 24 blueberries without having to spend energy on watering.

The Fiddlehead Fern Trap (Do NOT skip this!)

The absolute highest priority in Summer is obtaining a Fiddlehead Fern for the Chef's Bundle (Pantry).

Priority? It’s just a forageable fern… Right?

Yes, but unlike standard forageables that spawn everywhere across the map, the Fiddlehead Fern only grows naturally in the Secret Woods during Summer.

To enter the Secret Woods, you must break the Large Log blocking the northwest corner of Cindersap Forest (just above the Traveling Cart spot). Breaking that log requires a Steel Axe or higher.

Alternatively, chopping down the ‘naked’ green rain tree during the Green Rain event yields Fiddlehead Fern too.

Long story short: Fiddlehead Fern is not hard to get, but it’s the easiest item on the list to forget - or running out of time to get it - ruining your run and making it impossible to complete the goal in Year 1.

Note: While Fiddlehead Ferns can rarely appear in the Skull Cavern prehistoric floors or at the Traveling Cart, relying on these random generations is a massive risk. Upgrade your axe and f orage it in the Secret Woods during Summer!

Animal Upgrades: Deluxe Coop and Big Barn

In Spring, you built a basic Coop and bought your first White and Brown Chickens for Large Eggs. In Summer, your focus shifts to livestock upgrades.

Upgrade Path:

  1. Big Coop (10,000g, 400 Wood, 150 Stone):

    • Unlocks Ducks. Buy a Duck (1,200g) immediately. You need a Duck Egg for the Animal Bundle and Duck Feather for the Dye Bundle.

    • Make sure you pet the Duck every day and feed them plenty, so that happiness increases!

  2. Deluxe Coop (20,000g, 500 Wood, 200 Stone):

    • Unlocks Rabbits. Buy a Rabbit (8,000g) as soon as possible and start feeding/petting.

    • Why the rush? Rabbits take time to reach max friendship before they drop a Rabbit's Foot (required for the Enchanter's Bundle) and Wool (Artisan Bundle option). The sooner you buy a Rabbit, the less you rely on Traveling Cart in late Fall/Winter.

  3. Barn Build (6,000g, 350 Wood, 150 Stone):

    • If cash permits after crop investments, build a basic Barn and buy a Cow (1,500g) for Milk (to make Cheese) and Large Milk.

  4. Big Barn (12,000g, 450 Wood, 200 Stone):

    • Upgrade the Barn to the Big Barn when money and resources allow you to do so, but at least before Summer ends.

    • Why the rush? You will need the Deluxe Barn by early Fall, so you can buy a Pig and start harvesting Truffles.

Summer Fishing Schedule

Summer brings valuable ocean fish that are required for both the Ocean Fishing and Specialty Fish bundles.

Fishing for the Bundles

The fishing bundle requires a lot of different fish. These can be caught in different spots, across all four seasons, during specific timeslots or weather conditions.

In summer, you can catch these fish that are needed for the bundles:

Summer Fish Location Time

Weather

Reward

Sturgeon Mountain Lake 6am - 7pm

Any weather

Dressed Spinner

Tuna Ocean 6am - 7pm

Any weather

Warp Totem: Beach

Red Snapper Ocean 6am - 7pm

Warp Totem: Beach

Tilapia Ocean 6am - 2pm

Any weather

Warp Totem: Beach

Pufferfish Ocean 12pm - 4pm

Sun ☀️

Dish o' the Sea

The Pufferfish Trap (Do NOT skip this one either!)

This is the second warning, probably even more dangerous than the Fiddlehead Fern.

The Pufferfish is a very peculiar fish to catch. It only appears in the ocean, on sunny days, between 12pm and 4pm.

Luckily enough, Summer usually has plenty of sunny days. But still, the time window is very limited, so make sure you catch it at some point before Summer 28!

Spring Leftovers

Missed any of the Spring fish? You can also catch these in Summer:

  • Sunfish: Rivers, 6 AM - 7 PM, Sunny Days
  • Bream: Rivers, 6 PM - 2 AM, Any Weather
  • Shad: Rivers, 9 AM - 2 AM, Rainy Days
  • Largemouth Bass: Mountain Lake, 6 AM - 7 PM, Any Weather
  • Carp: Mountain Lake & Secret Woods, Any Time, Any Weather
  • Bullhead: Mountain Lake, Any Time, Any Weather

Note: Sunfish and Carp are the most important here! They are only available in Spring and Summer. Not catching them this season might make your Community Center rush fail!

Fruit Trees & The Vault Strategy

Completing the Vault is the easiest bundle around. It ‘only’ requires 42,500g total to repair the bus.

Getting that much money might be tricky though. And you don’t even have to pay for this bundle until you have completed all of the others if you don’t want to. For instance, you should definitely save your money for the building upgrades, rather than putting it in the Vault bundle.

But, if you happen to have 25,000g spare and want to spend it on something, do not pay off the cheapest bundles first.

  • Why 25,000g First? The reward for the 25,000g bundle is a Crystalarium. Placing a Diamond inside it gives you a constant stream of passive income or high-value villager gifts immediately. The extra income generated by your early Crystalarium helps increase your economy much faster.

  • Next Steps: Once your Crystalarium is running on the farm, mop up the remaining bundles in order of available gold:

    1. 10,000g Bundle (Reward: Lightning Rod - great for Summer lightning storms)

    2. 5,000g Bundle (Reward: 30 Quality Fertilizer, good for starting Fall)

    3. 2,500g Bundle (Reward: 3 Chocolate Cakes)

Completing all four bundles repairs the Bus to Calico Desert, unlocking access to the Sandfish needed for the Specialty Fish bundle. Sandfish can be caught in any season. Unless you want the Quality Fertiliser, the Vault can be left until Winter to complete, giving you room to spend your money elsewhere.

Critical Calendar Deadline: Summer 25 Fruit Tree Planting

Fruit trees take 28 days to fully grow before producing fruit daily. To get fresh Apples (3 required for Fodder Bundle) and Pomegranates (1 for Enchanter, 1 optional for Artisan) during Fall Year 1:

  • You MUST purchase and plant an Apple Sapling (4,000g) from Pierre's on or before Summer 25. This ensures it is fully grown by Fall 25, leaving 3 days to harvest the 3 required apples.

  • You CAN purchase and plant a Pomegranate Sapling (6,000g) from Pierre’s before Summer 25 too.

  • Ensure the 8 adjacent tiles surrounding each sapling are completely clear of weeds, stones, and paths every day from now until Fall 25.

The chance that your fruit bats bring back pomegranates is almost twice as large as apples. This makes the single pomegranate almost a certainty, while 3 apples are a long shot. You need that Apple tree.

Note: Did the bats bring you a pomegranate? Great! Use it for the Enchanter Bundle, which requires a single pomegranate. If you find a second one, it can be used for the Artisan Bundle too, but there are 12 different options there and you only need to fulfil 6.

This is what you have after 2 weeks of Summer

At Sunday Summer 14, the foundation you laid down in Spring is going to expanded. To make some serious money, sell harvested gold quality fruit and vegetables (especially radishes are good!), have 1 or 2 mayonaise makers (depending on the amount of Chickens you have) and some Preserve Jars working around the clock and keep on fishing.

Also, check to make sure you:

  • Multiple trees on your Sapper line have matured and have sappers

  • All necessary crops have been planted, possibly even harvested

  • Mine explored to level 80, Steel axe

  • Deluxe Coop built, 1 or 2 rabbits bought, Barn on its way
